Beyond The Amazing Race


 

OHA's Mission    

  • To deliver high-quality products and services that assist their members and partners in providing effective, safe and efficient health care.  
  • To advance and influence health system policy to achieve positive change in Ontario’s health care system.  
  • To champion innovation and performance improvement through knowledge transfer, education and advocacy. 

OHA's challenge for us was to create an Amazing Race team game for over 70 participants that would provide strong team building outcomes, but that would also be entertaining to address the ever-increasing job stress in organizations everywhere.  We offered them our Satisfaction Guarantee with a target that requires us to refund their fees if we miss our goal.  We achieved the target.

Comments from participants:

Pre-planning, staying on top of the tasks & communication.  Attention to detail is important. It is a great feeling to accomplish a task together. 


 

Some people don’t make good leaders; Team can fail because of one person. Never break away from your team. You learn from your mistakes; Communicate! We all have different strengths. 


   

The team should discuss/have a strategy to complete tasks first before taking action. Best use of the team’s resources.   Everyone has something to contribute. Co-operation, leadership & strategy is key. 


   

Everyone has a capability/strength and putting all those strengths together makes a successful team! You need to learn to listen, relax and strategize better to take time to get things right than forge ahead. 


 

  You need a good leader to succeed. Communication, sharing the work, making use of each individual’s skills, being organized. 


   

Everyone has unique talents that come out in different contexts. Lots of fun to see that. More fun than I thought it would be. Everyone had a good sense of humour. 


   

Organization and communication at the start are crucial. Accuracy of all parts if very important. Make sure everyone is aware of what is going on before going forward. 


   

I liked the session because it really enforced strategy & getting along, rather than being a test of agility & physical fitness. Would recommend to others! 


  

It was eye opening when it came to teamwork. Helped us understand the value of teamwork. I enjoyed it! Much more fun than I expected. 


  

Great fun and a wonderful way to get to know colleagues in other divisions. Fun; would like to do again next year. Wonderfully planned. Thanks.
