When parent/teacher volunteers were asked about observations of student behaviors during the Race:

...about the importance of teamwork, they said:

They had to work together and you could see their frustration with the “slackers”

Very critical – important to know how to allocate tasks

Made or broke the success, excellent way to building “team” skills

         Communication & planning

         Having someone lead

Talk and plan as a group

         Organization and delegation

         They all worked together

The more they organized themselves the faster the task was completed

Their ability to keep an eye on each other so no one was lost

The leadership was there while others did everything to participate

Everybody needs to know what is going on – communications

         They had to work together

They worked together well, they succeeded

They understood how important it was to develop a plan & strategy

         Need to co-operate

...about the importance of Attitude, they said:

Positive attitude is critical to complete the race

         Sticking together was key

Everybody had to contribute & stay happy

Important, but easily influenced by the person

         Key

         Not giving up

         Positive and directive

As one person gave up – someone else pitched in

They kept themselves positive and upbeat

That vigilance won the race for us

The better the attitude, the more they wanted to win

Everybody was “into it” our team 1st

         Determined

         Good attitude = good results

...about the event overall, they said:

Great time!  Great for teamwork & getting the kids to bond together

         Lot of fun

         Loved it!

         Fantastic! Thanks

Perfect day – the kids experienced the city in a way that they were not accustomed to.  It brought the kids and parents in an environment outside the classroom which brought them together

Wonderful, interesting experience – the children were engaged and excited!

         Excellent!

         Kids really enjoyed themselves

         Good – excellent learning experience

Excellent opportunity for people to learn about our city and bond with parents and kids

Great event – I would recommend it – thank you for the experience

A great way to test problem-solving skills
